New Moon in Aries 2023

“There is no instinct like that of the heart.”

– Lord Byron

The Spring Equinox kicks off the Astrological New Year on March 21, and we happen to have a New Moon in Aries on the very same day (which hasn’t happened in 38 years)!

This doubles the energy of the Ram, launching us headfirst into the world, with new ideas, new projects and newfound energy in our hearts and minds. Speaking of doubles, we will have 2(!!) New Moons in Aries back to back with the second one being a Solar Eclipse on April 19th. If you are looking for opportunities to energetically restart and reprioritize the months/year ahead, there is more than one opportunity to right the sails and catch the trade winds here.

The Moon, Sun, Mercury, Chiron, Jupiter, and Vesta will all be in Aries- What a powerful way to kickstart the Astrological New Year!

The beauty of this transit is that we can be passionate about the direction we are heading, find ourselves inspired and brimming with excitement and anticipation. There is a lesson here to not bite off more than we can chew. Aries is a Cardinal Sign which often means 2 steps forward and 1 step back. We have a tendency to want to go for broke but then scramble back a bit for safety.

Mars in Gemini is in a t-square with the New Moon which can cause us to feel split with where we are spending our energy. We can be cognizant not to have too many fingers in too many pies or exhaust ourselves by sweating the small stuff and being a busybody. We can also find ourselves either overly selfish or overly self-sacrificing with this transit causing irritations and emotions to boil up and over here.

Pluto will be at 29° Capricorn on its way into Aquarius for the first time in 225 years. At this anaretic degree, and sextiling this New Moon, we have the opportunity, the desire, the will, and the energy to shed whatever karma needs undoing and to be lifted (from this life, our past lives, or passed down ancestrally) that has been holding us back.

With Mercury ruling Mars and conjunct the Sun in Aries, we can let our hearts lead the way. We can instinctively know where to place our energy, what dreams (coming through Pisces season) are worth pursuing, and how to go after our desires appropriately. Jupiter in Aries will provide necessary truths that cut away the bullshit and point straight to the heart of what is honorable and necessary for you to pursue on a Soul level.

Trust what reveals itself to you and let your heart be your guide.

Aries New Moon Rituals

The suggested rituals for this Aries New Moon are those that involve initiations. Take the first step forward today in something with confidence and grace.

It can be anything whether that is starting a book that you have had on the bedside table unopened, starting a meditation practice you have been putting off, initiating a walk today, anything that feeds your soul that you can show the Universe you are willing to take the first step. Consciously initiating something with intention- that creates wind at your back.

New Moons are opportune times to take a relaxing bath (Moon is always associated with waters- physically and emotionally)- if you don't have a bathtub, then bathe in the moonlight. It is a great time to ask for clarity and visualize fresh starts and new journeys.

Happy Ritualing!

Blessings,

Bess
